At this stage Eventing is the only discipline that requires helmet tagging. We have a 6 months lead into the mandating of tagged helmets at all Eventing outings. By January 1st 2020 you will not be able to ride a horse at an Eventing competition or squad without a tag on your helmet.
In Victoria we will have tagging available at all competitions and squads as well as other opportunities at Saddlery stores to make sure everyone has the opportunity to begin 2020 with a tagged helmet. Our officials are spread throughout Victoria so there will be plenty of opportunities.
Please note that our officials are working in a volunteer role so try to fit in with their planned program rather than making individual appointments. We thank them for their willingness to give up their time to implement this initiative.

- Helmet tagging will be available at all EA Eventing Horse Trials
- Times for tagging will be approximately from 7.30am-9.30am in the Event secretary Office.
- If the Horse Trials starts on a Friday there will be someone Tagging an hour prior to the commencement of Classes.

Rule Changes
Protective headgear must conform with one of the current approved safety standards:
- Current Australian standard AS/NZS 3838(2006 onwards) provided they are SAI Global marked.
- New Australian standard ARB HS 2012provided they are SAI Global marked.
- Current American standard ASTM F1163(2004a or 04a onwards) provided they are SEI marked.
- Current American standard SNELL E2001.
- Current British standard PAS 015(1998 or 2011) provided they are BSI Kitemarked.
- Interim European Standard VG1(01.040: 2014-12) with or without BSI Kitemark.
BSI Kitemarked: (the BSI Kitemarked logo can look different depending on the year of manufacturing of your helmet. This is only given as an EXAMPLE)

NOTES:
- On December 16, 2014, the European Union announced that the (BS)EN1384helmet certification standard would be withdrawn. EA decided to withdraw this certification from the list of approved standards, starting on 1 January 2017.
- Helmet Manufacturers generally recommend replacing your helmet every 5 years or so.
- If you have a hard-blow impact accident while wearing your helmet, it is recommended to immediately replace it for a new model. There may be damage to the helmet that is not visible to the naked eye.
- It is the rider’s responsibility to wear the approved standard.
- The club/organising committee’s role is to take reasonable steps to ensure compliance with the rules by communicating the list of approved standards to their members/competitors when becoming a member or entering a competition.
Update 9/01/2017:
We are receiving many inquiries about Helmet Regulations and would like to reassure members. Your helmet can conform with one or several standards AT THE SAME TIME. If your helmet is approved EN1384 (the old standard no longer approved by EA) BUT ALSO approved under another standard (PAS015, ASTM F1163, VG1, etc.) then it is "good to go" ! Body protectors must be to the EN13158 or BETA Level 3 standard. This standard offers the highest level of body protection within the standard.
538.1.1 Cross-Country Body Protector
Body protectors are compulsory for Cross-Country. A body protector manufactured after 2009 and labelled as complying to one of the following standards is mandatory:
- EN13158:2009 Level 3
- BETA 2009 Level 3
