As indicated in earlier news, from 05 April 2010 participants in FEI events (CIs) will need to keep a medication logbook for their horses.
Medication Log Booksare required to be maintained for all horses entered into competitions under FEI rules from the 5th April 2010. Regulatory bodies in other parts of horse sport have required such log books for some time. The purpose is to enable Persons Responsible to maintain a record a what substances from the FEI Equine Prohibited Substances List have been administered to a horse. Using this record will focus attention on what active substances are being administered and also act as evidence should an FEI tribunal wish to examine the Log Book as part on the investigation into the detection of a prohibited substance at an FEI event.
The format of the logbook might chage over time but riders can download an Equestrian Australia version from our web, print it on A4 papers, staple the pages and keep the set in their FEI Horse Passport or our National Indentification Document.
The FEI is currently investigating the possibility of establishing some method of linking such a Log Book to the registration process of FEI horses; however, the essential basis of what is required by this Regulation change is a record of the medications given from the FEI Equine Prohibited Substances List.
Participants with horses competing in National events are encouraged to use the logbook as well.

Background:
The 2009 FEI General Assembly agreed to a series of measures as part of the Clean Sport initiative. These measures are designed to increase the clarity around many areas of equestrian sport in order to ensure that the integrity of our sport is maintained now and in the future. Clean Sport measures have a focus on, but are not restricted to, the reduction of positive doping and medication cases, whether deliberate or unintended.
The measures required are reflected in the FEI Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations and the FEI Veterinary Regulations. These measures will start to come into play from the 5th April 2010. Equestrian Australia was mirrored these provision.
