Show Horse Committee - January 2021 Report
EV Show Horse committee is pleased to report on the meeting of Tuesday 19th January at Werribee Park.
SUMMER SHOW 9th and 10th January
Excellent entries were received for this show with 178 horses and 847 entries, almost double those of 2020. We were very appreciative of support from Barastoc who donated a bag of their new premium feed “Supreme” for all 34 champions.
Racing Victoria and the OTT program generously awarded $400 for each OTT class as well as rugs, including the highest placed OTT qualified horses in the Newcomer classes.
On Saturday 5 rings were occupied by EV and breed societies whilst Sunday saw 2 EV rings and 12 other breed/societies/organisations participate.
EV Show Horse appreciates every competitor who supported this show which has continued to grow in numbers and significance.
BARASTOC HOTY
Record entries have been received for this important event on 12th to 14th February.
The conduct of this show requires a large volunteer group and I thank the committee and all the wonderful volunteers who are assisting this year.
COVID and border restrictions have placed some uncertainty on the travel of some interstate judges and has been stressful for the organising committee. However at the time of the meeting we were optimistic that we will be able to host the judges publicised.
The timetable has been finalised, however until we have confirmation of judges travel, we have withheld the judges rotation . We will advise you of this as soon as practical.
Due to the record entries received, we have been made aware of a shortage of stables available. Although all stabling is coordinated directly with WPNEC, we are making every possible endeavour to accommodate all exhibitors requiring overnight stabling. Whilst we may not be able to totally achieve that this year, it will be addressed for forthcoming events.
Discussion was held about a complimentary barbecue on Saturday evening for those watching the twilight Show Hunter classes. More information will be conveyed to you about this shortly.
For those attending Barastoc, we again remind you of the necessity to adhere to COVID Safe policies including QR check in and social distancing. Please allow a little more time to enter Werribee Park as it is important that every visitor has contact tracing which will be recorded at the entrance.
We thank you for your patience in this regard.
SHOW HORSE JUDGES PANEL
Your Nationals Committee delegate, Lorri Mansell and the NT delegate have been asked to address the current criteria required to become an accredited judge. It is this committees opinion that the current requirements and structure in place are complex and unduly arduous.
We have therefore submitted a more streamlined and simplified proposal to be presented to the National Committee for their meeting of 23rd February. If our proposal is accepted, we then intend to encourage more potential judges to join our panel.
Remember NO Judges, No Shows!
JUDGES SEMINAR
After an absence of a judges accreditation seminar in 2020, we have planned to conduct our 2021 seminar on 25th July at Werribee Park. This is currently a tentative date and we will confirm this date at the earliest opportunity.
EV CLINICS
It is our intention to recommence clinics in the winter months of 2021 and these dates will be confirmed shortly.
EV SHOW HORSE AWARDS
Your committee is currently finalising a points system to replace the previous nomination and committee selection for the EV Show Horse Awards This structure should be finalised and publicised within the next few weeks. Similarly the points structure for the most successful OTT Show Horse will also be announced.
