Show Horse Committee Report September

The EV Show Horse committee met remotely on 21st September and is pleased to submit a summary of business conducted.

This report has been held over to also include a further meeting on 28th September pertaining to the EA Show Horse and Rider Championships.

Just as members are frustrated by the cancellation of so many shows and other show horse activities, your committee shares that frustration with the events we have had planned and been forced to cancel or postpone.

However we are now optimistic that we can plan with a little more confidence.

Thank you for your patience. We want to get back to shows and activities as much as you.

NATIONALS

The uncertainty of COVID restrictions deemed it impractical for us to pursue our original December date to conduct the Nationals. It also became apparent that for EV to plan for a future date, we needed an assurance that the organisation would not be exposed to considerable financial risk should the event need to be cancelled at late notice.

As a consequence, a proposal was submitted to the EASHC that this risk be shared by all participating competitors. Whilst we recognised this was not the ideal scenario, we could not expect all members to have to be burdened with a shortfall if late cancellation occurred.

Commitments which had to be in place included Werribee Park booking fees, portable stable hire, ribbons, garlands, rugs, indoor infrastructure, judges non refundable airfares etc.

This proposal was initially rejected by EASHC which left us no alternative other than to return the conduct of the event to them.

Following further meetings with that committee and ourselves, the EASHC agreed to our conditions and to allow us autonomy in the organisation of the event.

We were then able to negotiate an available date with Werribee Park. With so many organisations desperate to conduct events in 2022, we appreciated Werribee Park’s co-operation in accommodating us.

This allowed us to the confirm the dates of 10th - 13th March 2022.

We are very excited that this has now been finalised and we look forward to presenting a great ‘ double header’ with 2020 and 2021 qualifiers attending.

The schedule is able to be completed with entries likely to close late January/early February.

The Victorian team management group have kept qualified competitors informed and they too, can now plan with more confidence.

BARASTOC

Plans continue to progress for our wonderful Barastoc Horse of the Year on February 11th - 13th.

The schedule will be available mid October with entries open on 8th  November and closing on 14th December.

DECEMBER SHOW

Following the necessity to cancel the September Show and postpone the Owner Rider and OTT shows, we are pleased to confirm that these shows will now be combined over 2 days on the weekend of 4th and 5th December.

Saturday 4th will host the Owner Rider and OTT classes.

Sunday 5th will have 2 rings of full competition.

Schedules available mid October.

MEASURING

The committee is mindful of the need for measuring days and details of these will be announced as soon as dates are confirmed.

YOUNG AMBASSADOR AWARDS

We congratulate all finalists for these prestigious awards which unfortunately had to be decided virtually again this year.

However that did not diminish the standard of the recipients who are assessed on not only their riding ability but also their credentials to be an ambassador for the sport. The selectors Susan Gorst and Linden Hearn commented on the high quality of our young riders.

Major congratulations to the Show horse winner, Charlotte Oberin.

SUMMER SHOW

As well as the Breeds Extravaganza, EV will conduct 2 full rings each day of this event. This show will be a Barastoc 2023 qualifier.

Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you at our forthcoming events.
