Special Resolution to amend the Equestrian Victoria Constitution
To: Equestrian Victoria Membership
From: Carl Parkin, Chair, Equestrian Victoria
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Equestrian Victoria (EV) will be held at 7pm, Monday 11 November, 2019. I sincerely hope that our membership will be well represented as we present our reports on the year 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019.
The membership present at the AGM will also have the opportunity to consider a special resolution that seeks to amend the governance structure of Equestrian Victoria by removing individual sport discipline representation from the EV Board.
The purpose of this memo is to communicate with the membership that the Board of Equestrian Victoria does not support the motion as it currently stands.
The current EV Constitution guarantees representation from Dressage, Eventing, Jumping and Show Horse plus any other discipline which represents a minimum of 20% of the membership. It is the EV Boards contention that the voice of sport at the boardroom table is critical to the organisation's success and that the motion, if successful, would only dilute sport representation at Board level. This is a common view shared by most discipline chairs, all elected directors and skills based board appointments.
However, the Board does acknowledge that there is merit in reviewing the constitution to ensure it is fit for purpose and considers the needs of an organisation in the modern age. As a result, we propose to undertake a review of the current constitution (adopted in 2014), including EV's governance structure, in conjunction with our membership, over the next 12 months before presenting a revised version to the AGM in 2020.
