EOI - WPNEC Director Positions
Equestrian Victoria (EV) seeks Expressions of Interest for appointment to fill Director positions at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre (WPNEC)
Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre is the state centre for equestrian sports in Victoria. It is the largest and most utilised facility of its kind in the State, comprising two large indoor arenas, multiple outdoor arenas, general purpose and polo fields, 180 stables, 370 day yards, 250 campsites, amenities, administration buildings and an international level cross country course.
Due to its capacity to accommodate large numbers of competitors and its central location, WPNEC attracts in excess of 50,000 competitors and spectators annually, and plays a critical role in the ongoing sustainability of the sport in Victoria.
WPNEC hosts many major events including Olympic qualifying events such as the Melbourne 3 Day International Event, through to grassroots events such as the Equestrian Victoria Interschool State Championships. There are a number of other national and state events held annually including the Australasian Horse of the Year Show and the Polo Melbourne Cup.
The centre also hosts a wide range of participation activities aimed at all levels of rider. These include regular development squads in dressage, show jumping and eventing, as well as a wide variety of breed shows, competitions in reining, western pleasure, and mounted games. WPNEC is also the home of the Werribee Pony Club and the Werribee Central Equestrian Club.
WPNEC is based on 34 hectares of Crown Land within the Werribee Park Precinct and is leased by WPNEC Inc (an incorporated association) from the Victorian Government through Parks Victoria. The centre is managed by the WPNEC Committee, comprising volunteer representatives from Equestrian Victoria and the Victorian Polo Association.
Directors contribute to all governance activities of the Board of WPNEC including providing input on matters of strategy, management performance, policy formulation and implementation, as well as overseeing financial performance, risk management and compliance.
Priority will be given to applicants who have:
- Prior experience as a Board director in a not-for-profit or commercial enterprise
- Experience in member-based, community and multi-stakeholder organisations
- Experience in facility management, risk management and OH&S
- Possess appropriate qualifications including but not limited to the AICD company Directors Course and/or membership of relevant professional or industry associations
